An artist first and scientist second, Montpellier-born Florence Blanchard is a die-hard devotee to colour theory. Having studied microscopy during her PhD across the pond at New York University – on completion of her doctorate in 2008 a global recession and a desire to return to her artistic roots led her to becoming a full time artist, resulting in the incredible collection of original works we are excited to be exhibiting this November at Nelly Duff!
A lifelong obsession with the interaction between colours means that in Blanchard’s wonderful world, colour comes first and composition second. To her, the composition is determined fully by how she wants the colours to interact, and with a passion for molecular landscapes and microscopic images, it was only natural that her show-stopping pieces are filled with molecular, cell-like structures filled to the brim with colour.
‘Diffraction’ presents a never-before seen collection of original pieces, as well as a series of two limited editions – encapsulating Blanchard’s addiction to colour interaction and her signature molecular landscapes. A riot of colour, the clean lines and unexpected forms that build up her artworks are a joy to study. Every time you revisit a piece, a new pattern of shape seems to reveal itself, and slowly the huge number of layers and texture becomes clearer.
Having exhibited internationally, ran her own gallery space and print studio, and worked with the likes of ITV on sculptural and mural pieces – we can’t think of anyone we are more excited to debut at Nelly Duff than Blanchard this Autumn. We are even teaming up with our friends at London Fields Brewery to bring you our first ever socially distanced Private View Kit! Everyone that purchases an original work or limited edition from the exhibition on Thursday before midnight will be receiving a limited edition ‘Diffraction’ tote bag containing all the goodies you need to create your own private view – including a selection of tasty craft beers from London Fields Brewery and more. Sounds pretty good right?
