In preparation for this process, a hand crafted metal die of the positive image is made and a metallic foil is laid over the surface. The die is then positioned within a press and the image is transferred onto the paper stock at pressure, leaving behind an intricately detailed metallic image or motif.
Hot Foiling's Process
Nelly Duff experimented with the sublime subtleties of clear foiling with Jessica Albarn’s ‘Bee Flower’ & Queen & Worker’ editions, whilst the more ostentatious possibilities of the medium are showcased in Dan Hillier’s ‘Cecelia Huntress’-bronzeage’ artwork and Mr Bingo’s holographic ‘A New Hope’ edition.
