German born Artist Christoph Morlinghaus is a photographer currently traveling around the world who has lived and worked in London, New York, Bogotá and Miami.
He works with an 8×10 camera and negative film, only using natural light. The Artist believes that the beauty and clarity that is inherent in traditional photographic technic is sufficient for anything he shoots.
With a pragmatic rather than artistic approach Morlinghaus explores space in the context of architecture, the built environment and landscape.
Much of his work conveys both, structure and emptiness condensing it to one single image where he feels that there is nothing left to add or extract.
Using protracted exposures and large format, Morlinghaus’ photography results in hyper-realistic images, conveying a calculated formalism as well as an impression of captured time that translates into an abstraction from life – or even monumentality.
