Alex Binnie is primarily known as a tattooer, and champion of traditional wood block portraits depicting the great and the good of the tattoo world. Binnie is the owner of Into You, two world renowned tattoo studios in Clerkenwell & Brighton and his work has been published in numerous books and periodicals.
The artist regularly takes part in group exhibitions, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2010 and Nelly Duff’s 2011 appearance at ‘Pick Me Up’ Art fair.
Alex Binnie's Process
Binnie uses the traditional reductive technique of wood block printing to create his beautifully textured artworks on Japanese rag stock. Each negative image is hand carved from a single block of wood, which is carefully inked and hand fed into printing press, where the image is transferred to the soft stock at pressure.
